Nightlife in Itaewon
Sunday, March 14, 2010 - Labels: Itaewon, Nightlife - 1 Comments
By night, Itaewon attracts hordes of young Koreans as well as foreigners. The Itaewon strip has doubled in length in recent years, with many new discotheques and restaurants catering to a new generation. In former times the hundreds of bars and discos used to rock until the break of day, the alcohol flowed, the crowds got rowdy, and Itaewon earned a rather disreputable name for itself among Koreans. Still, many a cross-cultural marriage had its beginnings in one of the packed clubs. Itaewon has calmed down a little since its heyday, and the lower prices and more varied entertainment options of districts such as Sinchon have diverted a certain amount of the custom. Nevertheless it still attracts the crowds-particularly since it was declared a special tourist zone. The new link to the city subway system should boost numbers further.

The 'new link to the city subway system' opened in 2001, so this text is badly out of date.
