A Temple in Dongducheon
Sunday, November 15, 2009 - Labels: Dongducheon, Jajaeam Temple, Soyosan Mountain - 0 Comments

Traveling further north, the terrain becomes wilder, with impressive canyons and ravines. Beyond Dongducheon, turn at the highway into the Soyosan Mountains and make the short hike to Jajaeam Temple (open daily 9am-sunset: entrance fee), a place famed as the testing ground for a monk's celibacy, ornately carved dragons snarl out from this quaint temple's caves. Inside, you will find a pair of tempestuous carved dragons writhing on the ceiling. A spouting waterfall and narrow gorge with a stream complement this little canyon.
