Four Wooden Sticks Tell Shifts in Fortune

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 - - 2 Comments

Games are as old as the human race and as young as the children who play them. Human beings have been playing games for fun and excitement for as long as they have lived on this planet.

Koreans use sticks for a different kind of game. Instead of kicking sticks, they throw four 10-inch-long wooden sticks into the air and watch how they land. This game reflects the nature of Koreans; whether it is performed inside or out-of-doors, it enhances the festive mood of both the players and the spectators.

Sometimes in the distant past, Koreans used pieces of split wood to seek the advice of their gods. To tell the future, they would toss the sticks into the air, believing that the gods would answer their questions by controlling the way the sticks landed.
