Korea Sparkling
Superb Waterfalls and River
Sunday, November 15, 2009 - Labels: Goseokjeong, Hantangang River, Sincheorwon - 1 Comments
An even more dramatic waterfalls and river scene is located much further north in the Sincheorwon area. Be aware that, because there are several military checkpoints in this area close to the 38th parallel, it is recommended that foreign visitors join a tour if possible. A massive granite boulder, Goseokjeong, nicknamed "The Lonely Rock", sits in the Hantangang River and invites clambering up to its pine-studded brow. Legend says that this rock rolled in from the east coast and decided to rest at this lovely turn in the fast-flowing river. A pleasure pavilion overlooks the rock and the river's noisy rapids, and local boatmen may be hired for a ride through the narrow river canyons that just to the north. It is also the most popular rafting spot near Seoul.
